Hull City AFC tat of yesteryear, part 3

It’s Melly’s Mammaries time again, as we dredge up something of minor interest from Hull City’s past.

Anyone get the feeling this t-shirt (pictured front and back, though it’s not easy to tell which is which) wasn’t official?

There are a couple of clues:

* Hull Are Back. That’s all very well but what has that rugby team got to do with it? Hull City Are Back, or City Are Back, would be more fitting.
* Hull Tigers. Who made this t-shirt, David Lloyd? Er, you do know we’re called Hull City, don’t you?
* Taylor’s Promotion Army. Has anyone ever used the phrase before?
* And the fact it was for sale from a stall outside The Circle as well.

And it’s another t-shirt but its date, or even the point of it, eludes me.

Bear in mind it’s an official Hull City product. Someone at the club decided that playing under floodlights was so brilliant, they deserve their own t-shirt. (Although perhaps there was a day match version as well?)

Aside from the pointlessness, and the fact it misses the ‘A’ in Hull City FC, it’s quite nicely designed. But surely all six floodlights should be on there?

Hull City AFC tat of yesteryear, part 1

This is a new flashback feature, where The Three O’Clock At Kempton harks back to something from Hull City’s inglorious past. Think of it like Mally’s Memories in the Hull Daily Mail – but we’ll call it Melly’s Mammaries because we’re puerile.

We’re starting off with this quality Hull City AFC memorabilia from the 1987/88 season, newly rescued from a box in a loft.

I believe it was produced by the club’s official supporters’ club, so they should have known not to miss out the ‘A’ in our name, Hull City AFC.

The cartoon tiger’s tongue is lolling to one side, making him look a little bit drunk. He’d never had got into the ground with that rattle either. And the ball being spun on his claw is presumably in homage to the Harlem Globetrotters, who visited Boothferry Park at some point in the Eighties. (Google doesn’t seem to know when exactly it was).

On the reverse, the club’s name is written properly, together with a tasty looking fixture list. Current Premier League sides Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City are on there, while there are plenty of Yorkshire derbies – Bradford City, Leeds United, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town and Barnsley. Then there’s the two legged cup tie with Manchester United as well.
